PureCell® Model 400

Continuous power for electrical needs while integrating byproduct heat for use in bottling process.

Empowering a Global Brand with Clean, High-Efficiency Energy

At the Coca-Cola Bottling plant in East Hartford, Connecticut, HyAxiom’s PureCell® M400 combined heat and power (CHP) systems play a central role in delivering reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible energy. For a facility that operates year-round producing some of the world’s most recognized beverages, dependable power isn’t optional — it’s essential. HyAxiom fuel cells provide that stability while supporting Coca-Cola’s long-term sustainability goals.

Why Coca-Cola Chose HyAxiom Fuel Cells

HyAxiom’s PureCell® M400 technology delivers high-efficiency, low-emission energy designed specifically for industrial and commercial environments. The system simultaneously generates electricity and captures usable heat, significantly improving overall efficiency compared to traditional energy sources.

At East Hartford, the M400 units provide:

  • Continuous, on-site electric power

  • Recovered heat used directly in bottling and packaging processes

  • Ultra-high system availability — 99%+ uptime

  • A meaningful reduction in environmental impact across operations

The result is a resilient energy solution that aligns with Coca-Cola’s priorities for performance, cost savings, and environmental stewardship.

Driving Water Savings at Industrial Scale

One of the standout advantages of HyAxiom’s CHP system is its extremely low water consumption. Unlike many traditional power-generation technologies, the PureCell® fuel cell uses little to no water during normal operation.

In 2023 alone, the system enabled:
89 million gallons of water saved¹

This represents a major sustainability milestone for a beverage-production facility where water conservation is a critical part of responsible operations.

Lowering Carbon Emissions with High-Efficiency CHP

The M400’s high-efficiency CHP process captures and reuses the heat generated during electrical production — heat that would otherwise require additional fuel to produce. By offsetting boiler use, Coca-Cola reduces both natural gas consumption and carbon emissions.

In 2023, the system helped achieve:
743 metric tons of CO₂ emissions avoided²

This reinforces HyAxiom’s role as a proven partner in helping industrial operators meet aggressive environmental and ESG requirements.

A Low-Impact Power Solution for a Demanding Facility

Across its lifecycle, the PureCell® M400 system produces no hazardous waste, performs quietly, and integrates seamlessly into the plant’s footprint — making it one of the most environmentally compatible power solutions available for industrial settings.

A Continued Partnership: More Than a Decade of Fuel Cell Leadership

Coca-Cola’s East Hartford plant has relied on HyAxiom fuel-cell technology for more than a decade.

Timeline of Installations
  • 2011: First installation — two 400 kW PureCell® units (800 kW total)

  • 2022: Second installation — two 460 kW PureCell® units (920 kW total)

This long-term partnership reflects the plant’s confidence in HyAxiom’s performance, reliability, and long-standing commitment to sustainability.

Powering Progress With Proven Fuel-Cell Technology

With exceptional uptime, dramatic reductions in water and carbon footprints, and a decade of trusted operation, HyAxiom’s PureCell® M400 continues to support Coca-Cola Bottling’s mission to operate more efficiently and sustainably.

HyAxiom remains proud to power one of the world’s most recognized brands with clean energy that makes a real difference.
